Completing Jobseekers Form ES4JP

  • Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for filling in this form when only looking for temporary work. I have been waiting for a job to start for about a month, so I can only really look for temporary work of up to a week. Other than looking on the job websites and pestering agencies for temp work, I'm not sure what I can do. There is no point in calling agencies every day and there is normally nothing available to apply for for such short term on the job sites. Does anyone know of anything else I can do? Last time I signed on, I was warned that what I was doing was 'barely enough' to get by.

    Thank you! :)

    The columns are:

    What I did
    Date - easy enough
    What Happened
    What I will do next
    When

Any examples per section greatly appreciated.

Did they not give you an example form to fill this in? They should have done, though ironically its easy to not realise the "bad" example side isn't the "good" one!

In what i did, i used to fill out one line per website, they didn't want it so I do things like:
    searched directgov/reed/monster... website
Applied for role "xxx" through directgov ref:xxxxx
Phonecall with xxx from xxx recruitment, phone no: xxx

I give more details in the what happened column like:
    nothing suitable found
cv and cover letter sent to xxxx
arranged interview with xxx for xxx

In what will I do next i tend to do:
    check back
await outcome (sometimes I add chase for feedback - this is dependent on whether the agency requests that I dont - I get a load of "if you havent heard, you haven't been put forward, please dont recontact us" auto emails)
    attend interview

lastly for when, I put the date by which I intend to do these things. You don't always need a date, if you are just awaiting outcome there's no end date, but if you've said you'll check again or chase you need to date it.

    Hope that helps

I am after any advice on how to fill in the ES4JP log form correctly. First time I have ever had to apply for this and don't understand what I should be writing in.

    The columns are:

    What I did
    Date - easy enough
    What Happened
    What I will do next
    When

Any examples per section greatly appreciated.

    This is it - examples

What I did - Looked on www.reed.co.uk job for Credit Controller Ref 213456
Date - easy enough 12th April
What Happened - I applied online via the site and the applcation went to so & so ltd
What I will do next - send a follow up email (thats if you have a contact)
When - on the date you are going to send it
  • If your JobCentre staff are anything like the ones in mine, nobody is going to read the thing anyway so it doesn't matter what you put. If in doubt, just make something up!
