British Gas bill in joint name
First of all apologies if this is in the wrong forum. There is that many forums and sub-forums it was difficult to decide where to put it.
I'm a university student and I made the decision to come here last minute so I was a bit short of housing options and moved in to a rented 2 bedroom property with one other student that I'd never met but he's been OK all year and always paid bills on time etc.
The property is rented from a company that supplies student housing and we sort the bills ourselves. When we set up the bills they were all set up in joint names and both names appear on the bills when they appear online.
We are due an energy bill for British Gas any day now and the problem I have is that my house mate appears to have done a runner. I came back from visiting my parents for the weekend and he's took absolutely all his stuff and gone and won't answer my calls/texts/e-mails etc.
If it comes to it and I've no other option I could pay all the bill myself by going into my overdraft but I'm reluctant to do that obviously as it's not me who should be paying all the bill.
I was just wondering what my options are? (if any) apart from paying the whole bill myself.

Pay the bill yourself and sue him through the Small Claims Court if you can. The supplier is not interested in the person who has done a runner as you are both jointly liable for the bill.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
