It was an extra treat for the birds.
Don't worry about it, the recipient of the gift didn't phone you themselves over it. 0 -

Like a baked Alaska for birds with the 'surprise' centre. Yum Yum! :rotfl:Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0 -

There is an italian cheese which is considered a delicacy, it contains maggots who are in fact cheesy as they have only eaten the cheese. You eat it maggots and all;)
Enjoy your lunch y'all;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Thanks for all the responses, when I had the phone call last night I was mortified but now see the funny side - as you all rightly say a few extras for the bird in any case !!!

Here is an update:
I wrote to Pets at Home telling them what we discovered in the suet cakes (live maggots) and very quickly they have written back apologising.
They have offered for local pest control to check out the kitchen area for any more maggots and offered myself gift vouchers as a way of apology.
Top marks to Pets at home for their customer service

That's good of Pets at Home...they have really taken responsibility which I'm sure that many shops would not do.
Have you spoken to the person you actually gave the bird food to? If not then why don't you phone them now and explain to them that you heard about the maggots. Laugh it off and say that you hope the birds enjoyed the extra surprise and then explain that you've actually contacted Pets at Home and they have offered you a pest control person just to check the kitchen. If you make the conversation nice and jokey then they'll see the funny side of it!

This made me laugh a lot, as at first I thought you meant that a gift box of chocolates or biscuits or something had maggots in it, not birdfood!
Excellent response from Pets at Home though, and I'm glad you can see the funny side as well now!
And thank you for making me laugh today!!!:T :rotfl: :T :rotfl: :T :rotfl: :T :rotfl: :T0 -
Well the relative who received the present told the other relative in confidence and would be upset to know that I had actually found out as my relative was sworn to secrecy. The relative told me just incase I had some in the house too. So I will not mention it to her and as we do not live close I am unlikely to see her for awhile.
Anyone know where I can get cockroaches for Christmas 2007 !!!! LOL
