Concrete quantity help

spoke to BC today who advised either digging a minimum of a metre and then filling with min 300mm of concrete and building up from there or i could do it with a floating raft i think he called it (reinforced concrete slab 500mm wider than the porch.

so i am going to dig 1m down and assess the ground conditions first before deciding on how much concrete to fill trench with.
