Hi All,

Where is the best place to get cheap bedding plants?

I have some space in my front garden, am planning on taking some
lavender cuttings in September (my folks are kindly donating) but in the meantime I have some large spaces, so wanted to just put some cheerfull (and cheap) plants in?

Any ideas?

Im in Burton On Trent.

Look at local DIY stores for dying bedding plants - dead head them and get them in the soil quick and they usually recover - I've picked up pansys for 25p for a pack of 12 and had them come back for flush after flush!

all semi woody plants can be propagated now (rosemary, sage, dianthus etc., anything that has flowered already).

i agree with tim_n - go to Homebase type of places, they've got lots of bedding that have been massively reduced. i picked up an 8pk of Jamie Oliver's Organic Sweet Potato for 20p instead of £8 and 3 of the plants were still ok. A Scabious (perennial) for a £1 instead of £4 and a Dianthus for 75p instead of £3.

    Try here, Brookside nursery

I bought plug plants here in the spring and they were very good indeed. I'll certainly buy from them again next year.

Do you have any car boot sales near you? ours always has plenty of bedding among others, usually on a Saturday though.
