Electric parking brake

i think it was renault who brought about this useless peice of kit in cars back in early 2001 in the vel satis. why other manufacturers decided knowing renault and electrical componants dont mix to try and do this themselfs is beyond my comprehension of this EPB melarky.
i dont like VX cars, i dont like the GTC, VXR never have rated a VX.0 -
The Renault one is one of the easiest and nicest ones I've used.
The one in Passats is horrid. They seem to hold on for half a second when you want to pull away briskly.
Generally the VW ones fail more than the Renault ones from our experience.
To me they are just another piece of gadgetry to go wrong on a car.
Stop/Start is another one of my pet hates. But that's for another day..0 -

I like new Astra a lot, electric handbrake had removed it from my list of possibles, as Avensis.
In Vauxhall's reply to my concerns about the EPB and its rather alarming 'fault' where it is released with the car in neutral they say:-
"Although we are aware of certain isolated incidents, we were not aware of any widespread concerns with the electronic handbrake on our vehicles. As a manufacturer we reserve the right to make changes to the features, design and materials used on our vehicles as part of our continuous improvement program"
However they word it, I've got (getting) a replacement car AND a refund of the £250 cancellation fee I had to pay Motability Operations. Apart from that horrible EPB I do quite like the new Astra
Anyone thinking of investing in the new Astra I'd say go for it, but stipulate that you want the latest 2013 version with the manual hand brake, and a chrome like strip on the rear bumper0 -
Thank chaps - moral of this one is not to park with the front of the car facing downhill!
Off to practise hill starts with my left hand strapped to the steering wheel.

Good luck with your EPB. I hope you will soon learn to love it as I do."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
