Cost of a birth certificate?

When registering a new baby
How much is a birth cert nowadays?
I can't remember ever paying for my 2, but it was a million years ago now. This made me think there is no payment for one, but I also thought we never paid for our wedding certificate, DH has just reminded me he paid £2 for it!!!

2 years ago, you got a short copy free and it was either £6 or £9 for the full certificate which you would need for a passport.

You can no longer register at our local hospital.

If you order copy certificates from the area office where the registration was made it is only £7 (could have gone up to the £8 mentioned).
  • Our register office charges £7.50 for a full (long) certificate, and £2.50 for dulplicate copies of the short certificate but you get the first short one free.

Thats what they charge on our area. Very few mat units now do registrations.
  • Talk about severe inflation. When I was registering my four year old I paid 3.50 for the full certificate and got the small one free.
