Claiming PPI on old loan

I had a loan with Alliance & Leicester which I paid off in 2006. I don't have any paperwork on it now and I think they're owned by Satandar now aren't they?
So how can I find out who to contact or send a letter to? If they are owned by Satandar then will they honour Alliance & Leicester PPI claims.
The other thing is I'm not sure if I was informed on application of the loan that PPI was included but I would like to find out as I could do with the extra cash.

Hi there
I understand that Santander will have taken over the liabilities as well, so you can try tracking the account number by either emailing Santander or calling into the local branch.
Or if you know for definate you were sold and mis sold PPI you can try tracking down the loan account number on banking statements.
If you bank online you from where the loan monthly payments came out of - this may allow you to go back as far as 2002, the account number of that loan is normally shown next to the monthly repayment.
So basically as long as you have the account number and have a reason for being mis sold, do not worry about the paperwork, and make a reclaim, you can do do by completing the reclaim questionnaire, send to the head office or complaints dept of Santander, and they normally have 8 weeks, but the main of the banks have been given extra time, for example 16 weeks because of the backlog.
Keep copies of the questionnaire in case you need to refer back to it again, good luck.
Questionnaire step 3 below.

We had a loan with A & L that finished in 2005. Had forgotten all about it until I checked my Equifax report. Equifax told me the last 4 digits of the account number and the mthly repayments but I didn't know anything else so I rang the bank that the repayments were made from and asked someone to look back at 2005 for details. This took 2 attempts but I managed to get the account number this way.I rang Santander just last Thursday on 0845 600 6014 (option2,option 3).This is the PPI complaints team. I asked if they could check whether I had paid PPI or not (she suggested I ring the loans team to get this info but I had already and they haven't got info over 6 mths) so she took my loan number and personal details told me she would check if I had PPI or not and asked me my reasons for mis-sell if I did have PPI.
Phone call took all of 10 mins & on Saturday (less than 48hrs later) I had a letter to tell us complaint was upheld and we are getting a refund of £2000!!! Easy Peasy!!!:j. Not sure if the amount offered is correct so I am going to check with them tomorrow before sending back acceptance letter, but brilliant service so far!
Lady I spoke to on Thursday told me not to worry if there wasn't PPI on the account and she would just write and let me know.I did say to her I was a bit worried about submitting a complaint at this stage without being sure PPI was added in the first place. She just said it was all part of the job.
So if you can find the account number just give them a ring with your reasons for mis-sell ready. She just asked me a couple of questions,no trick questions and said 'right,I have everything I need, will be in touch'.
Good Luck!!0 -
Thanks for that. I'll give it a go.0

I went into my bank and got the loan number from the direct debit information. It only took a couple of minutes for them to find it. So I have just called Satander and they have confirmed that I did have PPI (as I wasn't sure) on the loan so they have put a complaint to their investigations team on the grounds that I did not knowingly agree to having PPI as I had enough savings at the time to cover unemployment (I so wish that was the case now).
So we will see what they come back with.0
