Suitable Alternative Employment - definition

I am currently 'at risk' of redundancy - undergoing the 30 day 'consultation' (HAHA) period.
I think there may be a suitable alt employment oppportunity in the company, albeit at a lower salary. Given the choice between a lower salary and no job, I would probably prefer to keep a job and have a lower salary. BUT my employer syas that because the salary is £7k lower than my current salary, they automatically don't deem it a suitable alternative and so won't slot me into the role.
I'd be grateful for any advice/experience on what is suitable alternative.
All I can find when I search the web is employees complaining that they are offered jobs which THEY don't deem suitable - they want a redundancy pay-out. I'm really in the opposite position.

There is no universal definition but a rule of thumb is %age similarity to your current role.

Consult, they should be engaging in trying to reduce the numbers and impact of the changes.
If you have identified a roll you would be happy to take even though it is not a suitable alternative there are no rulesthat stop you taking on this role.
IT may however be more suitable for someone else and that may be the prefered option since there is the risk that you will keep looking and leave.
Idealy they should be identifying all position available after whatever it is they are doing that will neeed filling by those finaly selected for redundancies.
How many are effected, if 20+ do you have union or reps0
