Can I be the voice of doom here ;)

Only a few days ago you were pondering whether or not to pay onto the electric key as your mum had not got enough money to pay this herself and you were worried about not having Xmas day with the fariy lights & the oven.

Under these circumstances I think youd be mad to encourage your mum ( or collude with her) that you should go away.

If YOU want to go away, fine PAP, you are brilliant with money ( must be all that tightness ;) ) save up and go interrailing, or youth hostelling, meet some new people get out there!!!

    I dunno hun
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I have told mum i dont want to go abroad today again that i want to go to devon... she has said that maybe we can go in september (if i can book time off work)... but i am just happy staying at home and going to places of intrest around me... easily pleased... i would love to go abroad (only to 3 places though)... dont get me wrong... but i have my whole life yet... i wanna 'just be me' for a while...

btw ali007... mum is in no position to pay for me to go away... if anything me and her oh will be paying extra to take her away :o

If you want to go to the taj mahal or the gobi desert, or even just skegness! You have shown you a) know the value of money b) can make appropriate savings & cutbacks to make sure you have the money in your savings, to be able to make those dreams a reality. You consider things well, you are not impulsive and those characteristics are what got you out of debt and will keep you out of it. So hats off to you for learning that lesson so earliy in life ( there are many of us wish wed had the LB so early!)

Yes, you have the whole of your life ahead of you. If you want to save your money and go backpacking round Oz or wherever, heavens YOU CAN DO THAT.

If you mum wants to either get you to bankroll her, or to collude with her that holidays are neccesary when in debt, and no suggestion of compromises etc, you are on shaky ground here, shes trying to get you to make it all OK for her which you cant.

I am a little older and a little harder than you, so I would be of the opinon in your sig. You do your own thing let your mum do hers.

ne of you will end up being happier and richer this way, and that person is you!

A more important question, is why do you need the 'excuse' of not having a passport? Can't you say 'I can't afford to go abroad this year' and make it stick? If not, why not?

(On the original question, no one should be without a passport, and the cost and hassle of getting one is likely to go up very soon. So do it now and you don't have to think about it for ten years.)
