Freezer in loft?

Options
Is it possible to keep a mini freezer up in a boarded loft space or would it be too cold for it to operate properly?

I would be more concerned about the weight of the freezer than it being to cold to operate. Many people have their freezers in unheated/uninsulated garages!

The loft is boarded with strong panels, and I only want a mini freezer not a full sized one.

Freezers only are usually ok in cold areas. It's fridges or fridge freezers that have problems once the air temperature drops to the fridge temperature so the compressor doesn't cut in.

it should be fine as long as your joist can take the weight,by the sound of it its only a small one & cant be any heavier than full grown man walking on the joist, so gofor it.

Just wondered how big your loft hatch is.

Maker's instructions should tell you what range it will operate in .... find them online or ask to see them at the shop before you buy

Only difference is the grown man won't stay in the same place for years - so the ceiling wouldn't have chance to sag beneath him. Personally I wouldn't put such a thing in the loft. Also the noise of the compressor might actually carry through the ceiling joists and be very clear and loud in the room below.

    Thanks for all the comments.
I thought about it as I would like more freezer space to store raw cat food and have no space downstairs for even a mini freezer.
I do have a power supply up there already, it is properly boarded with strong boards and I think the loft hatch is wide enough to lift a small mini freezer up there. Noise wise it would be above a spare bedroom so no issue there.
However....the comment about it going up in flames is an interesting one and gives me cause for thought. Is this something which is really likely to ever happen? Is the Beko brand particularly at risk? It certainly would not be a a brand that i would normally consider buying anyway ;)
Ah well back to the drawing board.....
