Suspicious HFC Claim Form?

Hi folks

Suspicious HFC Claim Form?

I wrote a letter to HFC providing them with details of why I was wanting to claim back my PPI insurance costs on an unsecured loan that ended 3 years ago. HFC replied by sending me a questionaire to fill-in, but I am suspicious of some of the questions that they're asking, including:

Q.
If your earnings had ceased during the term of the loan, how would you have maintained your regular payments?

Q.
If you were employed, please provide details of any and all employee benefits from which you would have been able to meet your loan commitments, including:
The amount that would have been paid in relation to your normal monthly income.
The period (length of time) that any such benefit would have been paid for.
Details of any waiting period before any such such benefit would become payable.

Q.
Provide details of any life cover you had (both life assurance policies such as Term Assurance or Death In Benefit payouts to your estate such as those linked to pensions) at the time you arranged the loan.

Q.
Provide details of any health problems that you had at the time of the purchasing the loan. Include documentary evidence of this.

Q.
As our documentation displayed all elements of the loan, state why you were unclear about the cost if the insurance.

As I'm new to all of this, I couldn't help but wonder if any of the questions listed above were designed to trip me up? I don't want to naively ruin my claim before its even had a chance to get off the ground. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Looks like a fairly standard questionnaire, anything you don't want to answer can be left blank. The idea is to find out whether the policy was unsuitable for you.

For example, the first question checks whether you had other ways to repay the loan so didn't need the PPI.

The health problem question is to check whether you had a condition which would have prevented you claiming, potentially making the PPI unsuitable.

Agree - standard questions, I have a PPI claim going through at present, my case has been upheld and I received a letter confirming the amount I should get back, just above 2K and well needed - been waiting for two weeks, and two weeks left before HFC payout. I would suggest you answer the questions very carefully and send back ASAP, If you win then expect monies no later then 4 months time, something from Crimbo.. good luck

These are from what I can recall standard questions.

Answer them to the best of your knowledge, good luck.;)

Thanks folks for taking the time and trouble to reply to my post. Appreciated.

I promptly returned the bank's questionaire (having taken copies for myself) and sent them off to: HFC Bank, Household Bank, Beneficial Finance and just for good measure, the chairman of the parent company - HSBC ...since all the organisations seem to be related to one another, even though it's just one single claim.

It's been over a month and I've heard nothing. I'm not expecting any sort of settlement or rejection of my claim this early, but had perhaps thought that I might have recieved an acknowledgement (my completed questionaire was sent by normal Royal Mail: not recorded or registered post).

Is it normal to post-off a claim, and then not to hear a sausage for weeks? I know that some organisations claim to have back-logs, but I'm concerned that some admin clerk may have just binned it.

    Kind Regards
  • You should have had an acknowledgement by now, I'd suggest calling them to check.
