Repointing - old damp-proofing holes

Options
My house is beautifully pointed - until you get to the bottom two brick courses. All around the base are holes where, I'm assuming, damp-proofing was installed?

I'd like to get that area repointed because it looks a mess and to keep out unwelcome visitors of the bug kind (vigilance is required to avoid swarming ants in the dining room at present!)

Anyway, I wanted to check whether there is any reason I shouldn't fill in these holes? Are they meant to be left like that? Also, can anyone give me an idea of how much it might cost to get just the bottom couple of brick courses repointed on a 3 bed detatched - assuming anyone will take a job so small?

Many thanks.

    hi
there is no reason why these can not be filled in, and a guess at the price would be about £300

If it is just the holes, then get a suitable shade of mastic and fill them in yourself using a mastic gun - this will be potentially less obtrusive
