American Fridge/Freezers

Hi does anyone know exactly how these are plumbed in?

I thought i'd better check as we'd like one we have seen but not sure if it would reach or not.It could go right next to the washing machine but i read it needs to have a maximum of 1 metre and i wasn't sure where that's too?
Is it the pipe that's under the sink where the washing machine is connected to(something to do with the sink?)

Sorry i really haven't got a clue when it comes to these things:o

Oh i forgot yes it would need to be plumbed in as the one we have our eye on has the full works, ice and cold water dispenser:)

  • I have one of these with ice and water. We ran a feed from the cold water supply under the sink under the cabinets behind the kickboards, and it connects to a pipe at the back of the fridge. If you have room for it, I doubt you'll regret it, I wouldn't be without mine. I moved house last year to a new build with a fully fitted kitchen and the first job we did was to get the built in fridge freezer taken out and my American fridge freezer plumbed in.

I'm not technical or good with DIY so I got a chap in to do the installation, £58.75 plus parts well spent.

The only things I will caution you against is to discard the first lot of ice, it will taste of plastic, and ensure you can get the f/f through your door!

Hi thanks for that.Have you got any idea what type of pipe we would need or where to buy it.I suppose any place like B&Q etc etc?

I wasn't sure if you could run an extension so to speak and have it a bit further than a metre?

The pipe looks identical to washing machine water pipe. I guess they say a max of one metre to ensure you have mains water pressure when the water enters the fridge. The one metre will be from the tap to your fridge/freezer.

Can you extend this though by buying a bigger pipe?:)

  • Our FF came with at least 5 metres of pipe. It is about the size of brewers pipe so very flexible and easy to hide behind things.

As for fitting it. It doesn't matter what your diy skills are just buy a self cutting tap from B&Q or wherever for a fiver at most, follow the instructions and you're all the way.

I couldn't get one through my front or back doors when I wanted one, so I've ended up with a large fridge and freezer standing next to one another. Actually, it's better, because the freezer space is much larger!

  • Mine is about 4 metres of pipe from the sink to the f/f, and the water pressure is just fine.
  • Our f/f is about 3 metres away from sink and have never had any problems with the water pressure. One of our best buys!

We bought an American fridge freezer without ice/water dispenser, as it had a much larger storage space for food. That was more important to us, than having an ice/water dispenser, and a couple of ice cube trays in the freezer take up hardly any room anyway!
Here I go again on my own....
  • I had friends with an ice dispenser on the fridge door - the amount of glasses they went through! The ice was continually breaking the glass as it come out with such force. Go for strong glasses or buy in bulk!!
