Anyone Tried Astroturf

Options
I am thinking of replacing a worn out lawn that i have tried to renovate lots of times, with astroturf.
Has anyone used it in their garden?

Funnily enough a lad a work mentioned this the other day. He managed to get hold of some from the local five a side football pitches (Premier Fives) they were having the pitches relaid and he got some of the old stuff.

He did part of his garden with it, mainly a play area for the kids and he said it was ok.

He's about to move house, so I asked him if he would use it again, he said probably not. He also mentioned that it did look like fake grass and didn't really look right in a garden.

If you lay it, instead of grass, you now get DOUBLE the incentives per yard, as cash payment from your local water authority, to save water!!

Saw this on a TV ad a couple of weeks back....in Las Vegas!!

    Guess it'won't help here though!!

Thanks for your replies, i have tried returfing the existing lawn and before that over seeding following all rhs book instructions but as it is not a large area and has childrens toys constantly on it i have decided to pave over it until i saw an advert for artificial grass in a garden centre and thought that might be a better idea.

Did you do this in the end?

We're looking to do the same and would appreciate any recommendations or comments.

    Thanks
  • I work in a school in London and we have just had No mow layed to replace our small piece of worn out grass, you would never know until you touch it,the kids love it as they can play on it all year round. Not sure of prices but if you put No mow fake grass in google I think you get some links.

We have decided to stick with real grass for the moment and i am growing grass in the greenhouse in plug trays to fill in the bare patches.
It does look like a dodgy hair transplant when you do it but it establishes quick.
