need a bit of advice.

Hey all

Recently my situation changed drastically, and gone from bad to worse LOL. I spilt with my partner - due to that I have made alot of cutbacks etc as im paying all bills, rent and pet costs. I am entitled to no benefits or grants currently. I have aboitu £80 per calender month spare for food after the essesntials are paid.
My first problem was that I ideally need to move when my contract is up (in Ocotber) and dint have the money. However this is sorted and i have a moving fund now :).
In our place of work we have recently been informed that either redundacies are happening, or we will have to work a 4day week. now here is the catch 22, if we work a four day week I will not be able to cover my expenses - let alone a food bill. If redundancies happen, i will recieve about 1 month wages.

I figure that I need to move ASAP to secure a place and then if I get made redundant I can sort of the benefit side of the situation with the new landlord if it arises. At an estimate if we work 4 day week I will be £30 better off a month than I would be on benefits (I may get disability related benefits fot anxiety / depression). If I get a new job I need to work 40hrs a week (which isnt an issue) as any less hours I would not be entitled to benefits and would be in the same situation as I am now.

Is there anything that I have missed??

On a side note, I do not want to go on benefits but I may have to if its a better situation. If i do I am going to do volenteer work for a dogs home, and restudy (but havent decided what area yet!)

Any help or comments would greatly help!

Why would you get disbaility related benefits - your "disability" isn't stopping you from working? You have said that working 40 hours a week isn't a problem - so how exactly is your "disability" having a serious impact on your ability to carry out day to day tasks? Or are you planning on it getting worse if you have to claim benefits?

If you are capable of working 40 hours a week I am not sure what the problem is. You clearly do not need benefits. If you can only get 32 hours a week, get a couple of nights PT work somewhere to top up your earnings.
  • First of all I want like to say thank you for the people who went straight for the throat and assume that I was exxagerating my illness. My "DISABILITY" as it was put will obviuosly get a little worse at least if my situation changes.
I think that I need to clarify one point, I meant if I change jobs i dont think 40hrs a week would be difficult (change of scenery etc). But at the moment I cant work 40hrs a week, I was sign off for two months by the doctor, came back on reduced hours, went back to full time and since then I have taken at least one days holiday every week since. It does prevent from working properly - Im not sure if it is the company or actually working(thinking the company at the moment, but wont know unless I get a new job).
Currently i have no decent clothes (and I mean clothes without holes in), my shoes have holes in, my teeth are a state and I cannot afford to get them seen, I currently have a prescription for anti depressants that I cannot afford. I have also been working for 11years. I came here for some advice on my situation, as im stressed beyond all doubt.
given my situation if I wanted I could get signed off from work by the doctor (which they currently want to do, but cant as more sickness means no job) and start claiming now - I have stayed in work and my sitaution as I really really do not want to scrounge. Just wanted to clarify that.

On a side noteI think that a PT job is the best idea, I work strange hours though so it could be difficult trying to find something. anyway on to the jobcenter to hunt for a new job
  • You may lose benefits but have you enquired about working tax credits? If you cannot work 40 hours you may be able to claim tax credits to top up your earnings. It may be worth going to the CAB for a benefits check and they can work it out for you.
