Paypal Ripoff , Avoid It , They Are Useless

I SOLD AN ITEM ON EBAY , THE BUYER PAID THRU PAYPAL
THE ADDRESS ON PAYPAL WAS INELIGABLE ( most are )
I TRANSFERED THE MONEY TO THE BANK WAITED 4 DAYS AND SENT ITEM OUT.
I EXPECTED THE FUNDS TO CLEAR BUT THEN PAYPAL PUT HOLD ON FUNDS
ITS WAS MIS-USE OF ACCOUNT
SO I WAS OUT OF POCKET AS I SENT ITEM OUT SPECIAL DELIVERY
I TRIED TO GET PARCEL STOPPED BUT COULDNT
THEN I CALLED PAYPAL TRIED TO FIND OUT INFO,BUT WOULDNT GIVE ME ANY FOR UPTO 28DAYS
SO CALLED POLICE THEY SAID THEY WOULD ACT IF IT WAS STOLEN CREDIT CARD
SO AFTER 30 DAYS PAYPAL SAID I WOULDNT GET ANY COMPENSATION ,WELL I KNEW THIS , 30 DAYS FOR THIS INFO........
WELL THEY STILL WOULD SAY WHAT HAPPENDED SO I GET POLICE TO CALL THEM THEY WAIT 2 WEEKS FOR REPLY ...........
NOW THEY SAY TO POLICE TO SUBMIT IT IN WRITTING WHAT INFO THEY NEED...............
THEY DO THIS ,, TAKES ANOTHER 2 WEEKS
STILL NO BETTER OFF COS NOW THEY KNOW IT WAS A STOLEN CREDIT CARD
NOW THE POLICE NEED MORE INFO FROM PAYPAL BUT THEY CANT GIVE IT
BECAUSE OF THE LAW
NOW POLICE CALL SAYIN IF I WANT TO GO ANY FURTHER I WILL HAVE GO TO SOLICITORS TO GET ADVICE

WELL AFTER ALL THAT ,IS IT REALLY WORTH GO TO SEE THEM IM JUST GONNA BE MORE OUT OF POCKET

PAYPAL IS SUCH A RIP OFF CHARGING THE SELLERS , AND SEEN AS ITS A EBAY COMPANY IT SHOULD BE FREE ANYWAYS

THE MONEY GRABING GITS.........YAHOO AUCTIONS WERE MUCH BETTER BUT THE BOUGHT IT AND CLOSED IT DOWN

WHEN IS SOME ONE GOING TO UNDER CUT EBAY AND TAKE SOME OF THERE CUSTOM .......

ANY ONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT WEBSITES COULD MAKE AN AUCTION SITE

In answer to the original poster ebay have had lots of competition, Freeserve auctions were free as were a number of other auction sites and they all closed up shop.

The trouble with free sites is that they attract junk, if you have to pay to list something you tend to be more reasonable about starting prices and such like. On the old Freeserve auctions you might get 20 pages of videos, all overpriced, all with huge post and packing charges and none with any buyers. It was a waste of time.

AS for paypal, yes it has problems and yes it needs to be cheaper but for sellers selling overseas there is no real alternative. The only way I could take foreign payments otherwise would be to hold a proper merchant account via a bank. Such an account would cost considerably more than paypal and would be slower and no safer either.

I am careful using paypal and have been lucky to have never had a problem. I have had well in excess of 1000 transactions going through them over the past few years with no problems whatsoever.

I'm sorry you have had problems though, I know none of us can afford to lose the money we make selling odds and ends on ebay.

BTW Could you please post in lower case and capital letters, all upper case is considered to be shouting and is quite difficult to read.

    Soo

Its hard when you have a bad experience of a company to see anything positive but PayPal deal with millions of transactions a day and they are bound to make mistakes during this time. I think on the most part they are a good 'tool' to enable buyers and sellers to make transactions without having to worry about currencies, bank charges or obtaining postal orders etc...

    It is easy to say

    But what is the alternative?????

The millions of succesful transactions (hopefully!) outweigh the problems that occur and as paypal is (relatively) new we can only hope that they are learning by experience....

I am sorry to hear about your problems felix65, sounds like you really have been put in an unfortunate situation - someone using a stolen credit card is really bad luck for you, I hope it all works out and you get your money back, i don't really know what to suggest to help but just keep on the case, keep fighting and don't give up......!!

    Good luck :)

    1. Greater seller protection - no chance of chargebacks :)
    2. 2.6%+20p receive charge (0.8% less than PayScam) :D
    3. £100 /transaction receive limit during probationary period (increased to £300 thereafter) :(
    4. no international CC's currently

But for <£100 transactions from UK customers, they're the bees knees.

I nearly missed that link then cosmokramer2004! lol!

I guess there is alternatives but it is the minority of people who would use this instead of paypal isnt it? As a seller you would need to offer both methods as oposed to only offering nochex and isnt it more than likely the buyer will just use paypal anyway??

    Worth considering tho! thanku! :)

Yes you really do need to (or at least, you're best to) offer both PayPal and NoChex as payment options.

The payment methods are tending to split quite nicely though. For example, i just sold a batch of 12 mobile phones in a dutch auction. 3 people have paid by cheque, 5 by PayPal and 2 with NoChex and ofcourse no auction would be complete without 2 NPB's

So NoChex is certainly growing and so long as the option exists, more people will start to use it. http://help.nochex.com/?Action=Q&ID=120 Here are some banners that NoChex supply for people to insert into their auctions - although beware, some are not Ebay friendly (ebay have size / quantity restrictions on service links).

Hmmm -- I think I might be sold on this nochex thingy! I think some of my reluctance was fear of the unknown and wondering if it was the effort... watch this space - grin! :)
