Skiing in Slovenia

Hi

We are two absolute beginners who want to try skiing.

I have found a good deal on a holiday in Slovenia ( Kranjska Gora) and was wondering if anyone has any experience about this resort/area.

All comments greatly appreciated.

  • I don't personally have experience of this area - but we sell ski holidays to Bohnj in Slovenia, take a look at: http://www.catered-chalet-holidays.co.uk/chalet_details.asp?from=search&chaletid=1902

From what I have heard, I know that it is very cheap in resort, and the skiing is good whilst not being particulary crowded.

It is a very beautiful area as well - a good area for an alternative ski holiday!

    Tickdick00,

I went to KJ when it was still in Yugoslavia and had a good week ski-ing. Some modern hotels right at the bottom of the main slopes and good value for money and a nice village. No doubt it will have grown some by now! As complete beginers you should do ok there providing there is snow! Check out a resort web cam (sure there will be one) to see current conditions.

There are many alternatives and for a first week away and for a good allround experience I'd choose a small Austrian resort with a hotel near the slopes. Have a look at Neiderau and Westendorf. Be aware that they are quite low down and late season (end of March) the snow may be poor. I have also heard good report about Soldeu in Andorra for beginners.

Where ever you choose have a great time.

me too, but many many times! personally found it was great for beginners/intermediates, as the hotels were right by (and one even on) the slopes (no need for buses or walking, just roll out of bed and ski down the slope - bliss!). but it was a very small ski resort, and no good for advanced skiiers. not sure how many new hotels and lifts have been added since i was last there.

Sooz, I agree. Think I stayed at the Larix which had it's own pool and you could sit in the lounge and watch the skiers coming down the beginers slopes. I wouldn't discount this resort for beginners but it will very much depend on the snow conditions though and I would check that out via a webcam as many lower resorts are still without huge quantities.
