Firefox / iTunes Grief!

I'm running iTunes and Firefox on my PC at the minute. I love firefox and iTunes and don't want to get rid of either but whenever I follow links in firefox, scroll through pages or do ANYTHING, iTunes starts skipping madly. I've turned the fancy graphics in iTunes off and I still have 200mb of RAM unused when I'm browsing so I can't understand what's causing this.
I have FoxyTunes running in Firefox but it's never caused any problems before. Any ideas?

start > all programs > mozilla firefox (safe mode)
if it works in safe mode without problems then its probably caused by an extension
hope that helps!0 -
Was the skipping not one of the original faults with iTunes 7. I'm sure I've read of similar things happening. It might be worth checking you have the latest version of iTunes.
If you can't find a solution then of the two I'd drop iTunes, try using Winamp. Far superior. Or keep your eye on Songbird, when it becomes stable it looks set to be very impressive."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
30111987 - will try that - thanks for the tip.
wolfman - I have an iPod and use https://www.last.fm so iTunes is ideally suited for that, hence my reluctance to change. I'm on v7 but have installed all the subsequent updates so am on the latest version.0 -

Winamp can manage the iPod very well (http://www.mlipod.com/index.php?page=screenshots). Media Monkey is another one worth a look. Both lighter and faster than iTunes. In fact you can skin Winamp to look just like iTunes.
Both can do audio scrobbling too.
I personally use Amarok (Linux) to manage my iPod, but I'm currently in the process of putting Rockbox on my iPod (instead of using the Apple software) so will be able to drag and drop files.
iTunes is still a good choice though. Just giving a few alternatives should you feel adventurous.
Watch for Songbird though. Very similar to iTunes but multi-platform and browses using the Mozilla engine. Basically looks set to be the Firefox of the media world."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
thank you! will give winamp a trial run when I get a chance.0

btw - what makes you have doubts about songbird at the minute? I've had a look on their site and it looks fantastic. Can it be used for scrobbling?
EDIT: Just watched the graphic on the songbird homepage and it even has a last.fm window on it. Fantastic stuff!0 -
It's still in developer release. Only v0.2, but it works ok. In fact I actually have it installed in Ubuntu and it works fine. There's still quite a bit to be done to it though, and a community to be built around it. I think there's an iPod extension but it's in the initial stages.
Like firefox, being multi-platform, and having easy to install extensions are its strong points.
Nice to see you're looking around! And yes I think it can be used for scrobbling. There's an extension (I think) although I've not used it. It's one of the default extensions I think."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Mine does the same, but not consistently. It seems to do it vary badly on some tracks and not at all on others. I just cannot see any common denominator.0 -

There were some bugs in the first v7 of Itunes - I suffered the same problem which you are experiencing. In my case upgrading iTunes to the latest version (7.0.2) fixed the problem.0
