I am a DD N power customer. I contacted them recently to see if they could save me any money on my bill as according to the website they have they could.
The advisor did his computer calculations and told us we could save by going onto Go Fix 6 from Football saver 3.
We use a lot of Economy 7 units and hardly any day units. The paperwork has arrived today and states that there is an almost 40p a day cost for supplying each utility is this correct or am misreading what the paperwork says?
By my own maths this will be more expensive than what we were on. I can give the following information from what they predict we will use in the next year the costs being from our old tariff.
Elec - Day 1st units 728 £179.52p
Day next 322 348.78p
Night 6283 £282.11p
DD Discount -£45
Total elec charges £465.41p
VAT @ 5% £23.27p
Total predicted elec charges £488.68p

Gas- Units (kwh) p/kwh
1st 4,572 7.173 £327.95
Next 2.636 2.518 £66.37p

DD discount -£55
Total gas charges £339.32
VAT@5% £16.96P
Total predicted gas charges £356.28p

So that's my old charges and my new ones are

Elec- Day unit rate 10.69/11.22p
Night unit rate 4.18/4.39p
Daily standing charge 37.10/38.96p

Gas- Unit rate 3.234p/3.396p
Daily standing charge 39.30/41.27p

The new rate seams a lot more expensive given my useage and wouldn't save me anything. Am I correct?
I am sorry for such a long post

You would find this a lot easier if you used a Consumer Focus accredited comparison website because all the calculations would be done for you.

To get an accurate comparison work out your approximate annual consumptions in kWhrs. Ask your supplier if you are not sure. You also need to know the name of your existing tariff (which unfortunately you didn't post).

Your question whether the suggested NPower tariff will "save you money" (even if it appears to be more expensive) is hard to answer. The tariff is a "fixed" tariff, at a time when rates are increasing going forward, so inevitably will be more expensive than what you are currently paying but which probably soon will be the subject of a steep increase. You need to make sure you understand the difference between a variable and a fixed tariff. Also be aware that NPower (and Atlantic) tariffs commonly feature a sizeable "deferrred discount", (circa £100) which is liable to be forfeited if you switch before it is earned.

A better question would be "what is the cheapest way forward"? A comparison website will answer that question better than an NPower adviser.
