Help identifying pipe work in Bathroom

I've recently bought a repossessed house. The bath has a sort of hot tub arrangement with some odd pipes at the end of the bath.
When I viewed the house they were covered in tape, giving the usual warning not to turn the water on. I assumed they were to do with the hot tub.
Now that I've removed the tape they actually seem to be pipes that were once connected to something.
It can't be a shower because that was on the other side of the bath and it's be a very odd place for a radiator. Does anyone recognise these:

Heated towel rail.
Wrong angle for a radiator.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Hmm, guess it could have been a heated towel rail.0

I would have to agree, they do look like towel rail fittings. Is it possible to trace back where pipes go below tiles surface?0

Thanks for the help so far.
On the other side of the bath is the shower fitting. I'm pretty sure this is for a mixer shower:

But having never used one of these before the connections look strange. Is fitting a mixer shower as simple as removing the bolts (while water is turned off) and fitting something like this:

if your on a combi, check the pressure gauge reading and then open the one or both valves, if pressure drops you know its on the heating side. do think its a towel type heaterDiv 1 Play Off Winners 2007

YEs, if you remove what's hiding the pipes from view (bath panel, floorboard, wall, etc.)0 -
99.999% they are for a towel rail. Why on earth go to the trouble of using chromed pipe but put those naff valves on is beyond me though.
Oh no it isn't. Repossession = take as much as you possibly can when you leave so the nice towel rail has gone together with its nice chromed valves and the shower as well.
You don't need to know where the pipes come from - just fit a new towel rail.
Yes you should be able to just replace the shower but you must check the centres of the installed pipework and the shower you propose to fit. The "bolts" are stop ends.
Cheers
PS BTW ref erlier post. If you have a combi boiler it WILL be on the heating not the DHW.The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0
