HP laptop switching off

My Trusty HP laptop has recently (last few days) started switching itself off during internet browsing. It has done it 3 times in last hour and twice whilst trying to write this thread. It seems to switch off if you move the laptop at all (even only slightly) and just seems to lose all power. It will restart and restore internet session but very annoying.

Now my laptop is 7 years old and used daily, i bought it new 7 years ago so is out of date now but fine for my needs (internet browsing, occasional word doc etc.) Do you think it would be worth getting it repaired? given its age and the fact laptops are fairly cheap to buy new nowadays don't want to spend a fortune repairing it.

What do you think?

As Browntoa says, it sounds like the power jack or a loose power connection. That would also indicate that the battery is totally dead (or has been removed). Will it run on battery at all?

The battery has been dead for years......always just used it connected to power.

Really can't afford to buy a new laptop :(

    Thanks for the replies.

I don't think it is overheating as don't hear the fan and can do it when only been on for 5 minutes then go hours without doing it.

I do think it is a problem with the connection, if i touch the power inlet or move it at all thats when it switches off.

DIY replacement way too complicated for me (im not tech savvy at all). Will see how i get on with it as at the moment can not afford a new one and repair will be expensive. Might have a look for cheap refurb laptops, Thanks guys!

There used to be a guy on Ebay that fixed the power sockets for £30 or so.
