Aggrieved Jane Norman customer!!!

Having tried to spend £100 of gift vouchers my husband bought at xmas in Jane Norman, i was told I couldnt use them for sale goods, and I had to spend double the amount the worth of the voucher, ie£200. They already have my money!!! Surely this is a rip off and the administrators are not being fair to the customer-can I insist on them giving me my money back on the vouchers?

It appears to be a fairly common practice with retailers that are in administration as TJ Hughes have the same policy.0

Totally agree that its not fair to tell you what you can spend the vouchers on after having your money but at least they are accepting them, when Zavvi went they wouldn't accept any vouchers and you could only get 10% of the value back from them.0

At least they are still accepting gift vouchers - as said above when Zavvi went into administration they flat out refused to accept them. Which they are within their rights to do - with a voucher you are simply an unsecured creditor with a piece of paper which says the company owes you 'money' (i.e. goods). That's no better than a supplier with an invoice and the administrators are duty-bound to get as much money for the business as they can.0

Presumably they have some T&C's somewhere that already stated this BEFORE they were purchased?
If so, then sure it is a load of cobblers and not very good but, using a random example, that would be like saying I will buy this DVD for 9.99 which states it will only play on an American DVD player then complaining when it arrives because it won't play on your UK player (very random I know, just one of my recent customer queries I received)0 -

These restrictions would not have been in the original T&Cs at the time the vouchers were purchased - they are new conditions which were put in place by the administrators after Jane Norman went bust.
The posters above are correct - while it doesn't seem fair that there are new restrictions on use of the voucher which were not in place at the time they were purchased, it is better than the alternative of the administrators just refusing to accept any vouchers.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

I guess the lesson to learn from this in this uncertain age is don't buy vouchers.
You just can't tell who's next to go under.0
