Try Melia White House - its really close to Harley Street and was fantastic! We booked through Lastminute.com (one of their top secret London hotels.......) and got a really good rate.0

Just seen an advert on TV for http://www.hotwire.com/uk?currencyCode=GBP
No idea how good they are, but maybe worth a look0 -
Well unless money is no object your very best bet is the travelodge website.
There are quite a few travelodge hotels in london, they are cheap (compared to £150 a nite) cost a little more on saturday nites.
They are clean and for me a luxury. Look at their website
www.travelodge.co.uk
I don't think that they can be beaten for value.
Personally I would book around the Kings Cross area & travel by tube to Harley St. (only because I know that area like the back of my hand)
Look on their website for the nites you need & compare costs between the different locations in London. You can't go wrong
Great Portland St is only a couple of stops from Kings Cross. You can get a special London travel pass at

for visiting. Saves a lot of money.0 -
Are you entitled to stay at the Union Jack Club, Waterloo or the Victory Services Club, Marble Arch?
You need to have been in HM Forces (including reserves), police, fire service or civil service - either one of you.0 -
Many thanks for everyones reply.
I have been medically retired from the northern ireland civil service, would this qualify me to a good price at one of the hotels you mentioned?0 -
I have traveled to London several times in the last few years, each time I have stayed in teh sussex gardens area literally two minutes walk from Paddington train & tube station (upon the advice of my Dad who has spent alot of time in London over the years). Most recently I stayed in a hotel called St Davids House in Norfolk Square and I have to say if I ever go to London again that is where I will stay.
it has excellent rates (from £80 per night for a single room if I recall) we stayed in a triple room for £115. The price included breakfast, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, they even stored our bags for us so we could go out and about for the day and pick them up before our train was due in the evening. I can not rate the place highly enough.
They do not take online bookings and you wont find them on sites like bookings.com or laterooms.com, you need to phone them or email them for them to call you.
I am a newbie so can not post a link for you but their web page is st davids hotels (no spaces) dot com.V xxx

Yes. All you have to do is find a piece of evidence which shows you were in the civil service then phone either club. They're called clubs but they are really like 3 star hotels. The Union Jack Club is just outside Waterloo Station, about 200 yards from the Old Vic Theatre http://www.ujclub.co.uk/ you'll find rates on the website. Around £95 for a double en-suite. Slightly more for non-military.
Victory services is just off the Edware Road, near Hyde Park http://www.vsc.co.uk/ the rules are slightly different there with non-ex-forces being allowed to join as members.0 -
Bear this one in mind for the future as well. It's in Cornwall and owned by the navy http://www.china-fleet.com/index.html includes a championship golf course. (legacy of all the dosh the navy got for the old club in Honkers).0
