Gluten free dog food

Can anyone recommend a gluten free dry complete dog food, my sister gave me some of Oscar's brand to try, as my Labrador is always getting ear infections, and his ear cleared really well. The problem is it it expensive nearly £40 for 15kg which I cannot afford at the moment I need the big bags as I have an GSD too, so any suggestions for a cheaper brand would be brill,

Hi, sorry to hear about boy's ear troubles - my lab is very prone to them too and we've had 2 labs in the past who've had to have their ears "sorted" with ops (really funny as they put buttons in to help them heal).

Ben's wheat intolerant and gets either Skinners Duck & Rice which is wheat, maise & barley gluton free as well as soya & dairy free or Wainwrights (PAH) which is certainly wheat free but not sure if totally gluton so you'd have to check.

http://www.skinnerspetfoods.co.uk/products/Field---Trial-Products/Duck---Rice/ (stick to their Field & Trial range as the other range isn't gluton free)

The Skinners is sold as a "working dog" diet so is VAT free which makes it very affordable - I pay £22 for 15kg (which I think is a brilliant price for such a good quality food) at my pet shop but you can also get it online if your pet shop can't get it.

    http://www.petsathome.com/shop/dog/dog-food-treats/dry-dog-food/?ref1=1|Brand-|Wainwrights

Slightly more expensive at around £33.49 for a 15kg bag.

He used to get just Wainwrights but I was starting to find it was creeping up in price (you used to get a lot of B1G1 1/2 price offers but these have disappeared) so tried the Skinners as recommended by someone - he loves it and does really well on it (his coat is beautiful and shiny and he's a happy boy).

I did buy a bag of Wainwrights last time (was near PAH) so he's currently getting these mixed for a change. TBH I can't say I notice any difference between the two so I've now returned to the Skinners and will be sticking to that now.

    Good luck

I use skinners too, and thats good. Years ago when my setter had a problem with things I was advised to use Wafcol - thats also gluten free.

    good luck !

    Which Chappie do you use?

I'm sorry to disagree but I looked at but it and although it's certainly dairy free, all the ones I could find had wheat or cereals in (from Chappie's website):

"Made with fish, chicken and cereal. Fish is an excellent source of protein. It is also low in fat, and contains a unique blend of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Wholegrain cereals: By using wholegrain maize and wheat, Chappie ensures maximum nourishment"

I feed mine Arden Grange Senior now, that particular one isn't gluten free but they do make a Hypoallergenic food that is. Its expensive at around £33 for 15kg but I feel its worth it. I changed to it a few months ago to try and solve some problems I was having with my Scottie dog, as it turned out it was nothing to do with the food, however I wasn't expecting the massive change in my Westie. He's a different dog, bounding with energy, his skin and coat are the best the have been for years and he seems completely different.

Thanks everyone will defo check all of them out. Must admit the Skinners looks promising, Bill & Ben love duck and rice too but saying that I think they would eat an actual fridge just to get to what was inside lol:rotfl:
