£100 from the Royal Bank of Scotland

Well I tried VERY hard to get my £100 new customer incentive from the RBS.
I applied and sent off all personnal doc's, well they lost the lot, its taken me months of time and effort only to be offered £150 comp' and the Finacial Ombudsman agrees this is a fare settlement!! What do you think? should I appeal or not?

  • How much has it cost you to replace the lost documents?
Does the £150 include the incentive or not?

Come back with answers to the above and we might be able to see if it's fair or not.

The total amount is £150 including the incentive, leaving £50 to cover the cost of replacement doc's, and the amount of time I have spent phoning/writing to RBS.
I am not amused that they are allowed to loose important documentation and are not accountable, I have no redress or assurance that they are not being used for fraudulant purpose.
At a time when we are told to be so carefull, what are the bank doing???

    Thanks for you responce.:)
  • What documentation did they lose and exactly how much did these documents cost to replace? (without the telephone calls etc).
Could they have posted the documents back to you but have been lost by Royal Mail?
  • Since you have not replied I have to assume the documents did not cost you anything to replace.
Could they have been copy bank statements, utility or credit card bills perhaps?
Since you already gone as far as the Banking Ombudsman and he thinks that £150 is a fair amount in compensation I think you would be foolish to consider court action. A judge in a bad mood may award you less than you have been offered and then refuse your claim for costs.

Personally I would accept the offer. You have what you wanted, the initial £100 incentive and you have made your point to RBS.

As, ejones999 says, if the Ombudsman has awarded you compensation to that amount then I would say that is fair.

Thanks for your advice, the documents were originals and can be replaced, but that is not my main concern.. the fact that they opperate bad practice and procedures is more the issue, they should be held accoutable.

I have reluctantly settled, and I lookforward to getting the £150

    thanks for all the help...
  • Just out of interest what were these documents?
You are very mysterious and evasive in telling us what they were and how much they will cost you to replace.
What bad practise did they perform as I have previously posted they could well have been posted back to you by the bank but lost by Royal Mail.
  • I uesed to have an account at the RBS. My husband and I left when our account ran into difficulties and I phoned to speak to our financial adviser, only to be told he had left about 4 months prior to my call. I was very angry because I knew he would have made sure we didn't get hit with huge charges.
I wrote to the new adviser and I got no letter or phone call of confirmation from her. We received a letter from her telling us her name, and that she would like to meet us. We said that was fine, I phoned the number she had given us and I left a message on her answering service. I said we could come and see her only on Saturday mornings because my husband is on the road daily. No reply. I left another message a few days later, still no reply, and the same again the following week. I don't like that kind of service. After all if we are paying a service charge aren't we entitled to get value for money?
  • How about this. I applied to Abbey National last year, sent them my ID documentation and a cheque. When they refused my account, they sent me back someone else's ID document and cheque. When I called them, they did not know where my documents were.

Talk about incompetence, and as the OP states we are expected to be so cautious about our identities yet the banks are just so inept it is unbelievable.

  • They should have sent back my doc's be recorded delivery.
just for your info: it was 2 different bankstatements, and 3 wage slips. falling into the wrong hand could be used for identity fraud.
by the way I still have not recieved the £150 maybe that has got lot in the post as well!!
AND they have not opened me an account after all that..??
do I want to bank with them... I think NOT
