My favourite way to cook in the slow cooker is beef or chicken with no stock.
It's absolutely brilliant and in the case of the beef doesnt really shrink at all so you only need a small bit.
I put it in and go to work for 8 hours with it on the lowest setting and it's fine.

I have had the same slow cooker for nearly 25 years and use it regularly. I put it on when I go to work and come home to a cooked meal. I have no qualms about leaving it on while I am out. Mine has only one heat setting but as it still works perfectly I am in no hurry to change it.:hello: N:hello:A :hello:N :hello:A :hello:M :hello:A :hello:G :hello:S :hello:0

Just before Christmas I put some braising steak on for about 5 hours with no stock at all.:o (I was busy and forgot!). Both slow cooker and steak survived - suprisingly! But I wouldn't recommend it.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

The beef stew was a success! The only problem was I had difficulty getting out of bed early enough to get the sc on! I fried the meat/veg beforehand and had it on auto for 5hrs then put it on high for the last 1 and 1/2 hours. I would normally be up earlier but we had a late night last night! I'm going to do a spag bol and a sausage casserole this week, I just need to go shopping first.0
