Have been with BT For 3 Years, I signed up for a 12 month contract.
NOT once was we told or made aware that this contract would automatically renew for 12 months
We have never recieved a letter saying that the contract would be renewing & I would never have taken out the initial contract with them had I been aware of this

I have changed my supplier and Been charged £67 :mad::mad:

Im disgusted that they are allowed to do this, surely a contract is a mutual agreement....I did not agree to this.

Is there a way to get out of the charges??

What contract were you on ?, was it the unliimited evening and weekend call plan ( for no extra cost) ?, where you pay line rental and the call plan is free, BT say this saves you £3/month , if its this, then it does auto renew, but they are supposed to write to you before the 12 month anniversary, in my 2 years on that plan, I got the letter both times although once it came late, the second time I got the letter in the month before the plan renewed, so if you have never recieved a letter then you should call them, also the penalty for moving in the contract period is (I think) £2 for every month remaining, so that would be a maximum of £24, even if it were £3/month it would be £36....you need to ask them where the £67 comes from, however if you are cancelling a BT call/line rental plan and BT broadband, and the broadband is in their opinion also still in contract the figure could be for both, it may seem harsh, but you should have called BT and asked what , if any, the penalty would be , if you moved to another provider.

    Thank you for your reply
It was the unlimited Anytime plan, just the house phone
They said that they have only this month renewed the 12 month contract which is why its £67
The reason im so angry is that not at any time was I made aware of this roll on contract, no letters or when I signed up
I didnt call them before changing because as far as I was aware I was not in any contract so I was free to pick & Choose.
I wont make the same mistake again and wont ever use this company again

The rollover arrangements are clearly set out in the small print of the Terms & Conditions that you agreed to, but probably never read thoroughly, when you signed up.

There are loads of similar posts on this board complaining of this problem with BT, and other providers, but BT are covered by their T&Cs.

If you are having trouble with this problem, better have a look at the T&Cs on your car insurance and your home and contents insurance which almost certainly will have the same terms.

the above BT T&C's, early redemption for your plan is £5.50 x remaining months, so they must think you terminated the same day you 'renewed' as the max is £5.5x12= £66
If they are charging you the maximum, then they must think you recently agreed to a renewal, did they call you ( or could someone else have answered a call from BT and agreed to renewing ? ) , they may be saying that the contract was verbally renewed rather than a rolling 'auto' renew...if you were paying the ordinary rate for anytime calls (£4.70/month) without any discount, then I thought that it wasnt a rolling contract anyway, because the discount part of the deal was seem as compensation for the rolling element of the contract, if its an ordinary price contract then auto renewing it , especially if they didnt even write to you in the month before renewal, is pretty sharp practice and should give you enough ammunition to get them to waive the charge, you need to e mail the CEO, that usually gets things moving....looking at BT.COM BT dont even do these auto renewing contracts now,

My 12 month contract was supposed to auto renew (they send me a letter to remind before renewal), they rhen proceed to charge me for the full price of evening and weekends. Each year I have had to ring to complain, I just thought they were trying it on, anyone else had this problem? It seems the OP has the opposite problem, what is going on?

The last 2 years I have been charged for the Evenings/weekend package in the bill directly after the rollover date;I have then been rebated the full amount in the following quarterly bill.
BT's explanation last year was that since the bill date was so close to renewal that the system made the assumption that I wasn't going to renew so charged me for the plan!! As I had actually let the plan renew the next bill was then adjusted.
Having said all that it hasn't happened that way this year, possibly because they have moved onto a new billing system.

Hi Thank you for your reply,
They said the contract only started this month
We had no contact from BT To let us know this, thats why im so angry... I have looked through all my paperwork & can find nothing to say that my contract will be auto-renewed
Im not sure what to do to be honest, but either way I will pay the bill but I wont pay the charges

Have had a reply from Ofcom to say that they have recorded my experience and that they have set out proposals to end rolling contracts
