Wow. Thanks for all your replies. I think I've settled on flowers - as she has a cat I know lillies are off the menu - so I'll give it a bit more thought.
Tuesday's pay day. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Erm, i say take a Costa coffee and a danish into work for her. That'd do me! :jBaldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0

I would say a combination a thank you card and bunch of flowers and tell her that you will pass the kindness on.0

I have often done such deeds for my friends and have never been comfortable with a thank you gesture myself, but that's just the way I am! I am happy with the satisfaction of knowing they love the gift. The good deed is often repaid at a later date when they have offered me something that they no longer want or need but know that I would.
I go more for the 'pay it forward' concept

A donation that you can afford to a local charity and a thank you card to the lady telling her that you have contributed in her name.
I'm a great believer in making what goes around come around, if you see what I mean.0 -
What a lovely friend you are! Many people I know would have taken the mirror without a second thought (says a lot about the people I know doesn't it....!).
I think a bunch of flowers, or a nice flowering plant would be perfect. A plant will last longer if bought from a good garden center (supermarket plants can be poorly cared for)Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0 -
A really nice bottle of wine would be a good alternative to flowers.0

I'd go for either the garden plant idea or the donation to charity as mentioned in earlier posts.
How nice to have a friend like that and to be a good friend to her. That's what life is all about.0 -
How about writing her a wee note, saying how much you appreciate it. Even if you've already told her, it would be nice to see that you've went to the trouble of writing it down.
She probably doesn't want anything for it, and is just happy that you're happy with it.
