paint colour matching

After spending a small fortune on paint tester pots, I have finally found the right colour paint I would like. But, now that I am going out to buy it, it is out of stock at my local DIY shed - the only store that seems to sell it. The other branches are a few mile away, and difficult to get to on public transport.

But, I do have a small independent paint shop close by. I have heard of people getting the Farrow and Ball paint colours matched that way - is it the same for all paint colours? Would they have a list of branded paints they can match - or do I need to take my sample sheet with me?

(apologies if these are really daft questions - I am not really a DIYer :o)

Why not just give your local independent paint shop a telephone call and ask them??

If they have the Farrow and Ball paint codes they will be able to get very close on other manufacturers mixing machines, but dont expect an exact match as the bases may be slightly different

I would check the prices of Farrow and Ball before you order it though.

Could your original store not order it in from another store

I thought B&Q in their larger stores were able to mix any shade, provided you can supply them with a sample - or am I getting confused with a process that mixed colours to a limited range of stock shades?

My local paint suppliers can do colour spectrometry (an electronic camera type device that measures the colour) on any colour you take in and then match it. They use a Crown mixing machine.

Try your local independent painters and decorators merchants.
