Challenge: hand wash with NO bubbles

Options
DS2 (4) objects loudly to bubbles, he has sensory processing problems so he's not just being fussy. We currently get him to use a liquid soap without water and then wash it off, it's not too awful a battle but if I can make it easier it would be one less stressy thing to deal with. Babywipes and sanitizer are ok for occasional use but can anyone think of something more suitable for everyday?

What about E45 Emollient Wash? It's a non-foaming detergent-free alternative to soap. You can buy it from Boots or most other chemists and I think supermarkets might sell it too.

Thank you, we'll give it a go, hopefully if I can stop it being upsetting he'll get into the habit of washing automatically and we can phase bubbly soap back in.

aqueous cream is a soap substitue and it comes in a bar form too.

my youngest has alot of allergies and i use epiderm for him and it doesnt foam but is more for people with severely dry skin.

As an experiment to make a "Dove" type moisturising handwash I put skin lotion in my handwash - result = no bubbles and you probably have the lotion anyway so no extra expense. Plus add the lotion to the existing handwash bottle so DS gets used to using the bottle.

is he sensitive to essential oils? if not, you could try a few drops of tea tree and/or lavender and/or peppermint in some water and either dip his hands in or use a cloth for extra 'washiness'. The oils are naturally anti bacterial etc as I understand it.

I was going to suggest aqueous cream too - I didn't realise it comes in a bar as we just get the big tubs, but it's nice and cheap.

Is it all bubbly things he doesn't like? Wondering if he likes to watch bubbles or toys with bubbles in so you could get him used to bubbles that way?

OK, he loves bubbles as a concept, he loves blowing bubbles etc, but he's really not into bubbles on him. He loves baths, but not with the tap running. He loves playing with boats but not squirty toys. If I can get him washing his hands happily so it's not a battle to get him to do it, then I'll work on getting the bubbles back in before he starts school. He's got full time 1:1 support at school so hopefully we can work on this together.

Thank you very much everyone for the ideas, I'll give them all a go :D

If you go for the aqueous cream etc route and your son has a disability, would it be worth trying to get it on prescription?

diprobase is an emollient lotion like aqueous cream but comes in a pump like hand wash so might be a good choice
