I have a Samsung Galaxy S
I have 1000 texts as part of my monthly package, which I never ever come close to - normally in region of 100
Only had the phone for a few months, but, very annoyingly, I keep getting charged a few pounds over my tariff for 'extras'. When I queried this, I was told by Talk Mobile that I keep sending picture messages. I never send pic messages, & wouldn't even know how to!
The lady at TM talked me through my phone settings & disabled the settings on my phone, so that a MMS can't be sent.
Have just checked my account, and have been charged again since this!
Am totally confused - Can anyone throw any light on why some of my text messages are coming through as MMS and why some(not all) are being sent out as MMS
Cheers

I believe (someone will correct me if I am wrong) that if a text message is longer than three normal text messages, it converts it to a MMS on some phones. I know my old Nokia did, but there was a setting to turn this option off...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Also if the OP is replying to an mms even with just a text, some handsets will send as mms.0

On my wife's phone (O2 Simplicity monthly) she gets an extra charge for receiving them, quite annoying when someone is just sending you something your not really that bothered to see like a picture of their dog!0

OK-Been to Carphone Warehouse.
The chap in there told me that any messages longer that 160 characters automatically get received & sent as MMS messages & charges incurred.
Even though I have disabled MMS settings on my phone, if I fwd a message that is MMS without realising that is a MMS, I will still get charged, even though the recipient won't receive it!
Forgot to ask what would happen if I sent say, 5 text messages, with 40 characters in, would this be classed as 5 x text messages, or, 1 x MMS (200 characters?) Anyone know?"Hope for the Best

If you send 5 text messages to the same person one after the other, then it should be billed as 5x separate SMS and not a cumulative 1x MMS0

I'm on simplicity monthly and don't get charged for recieving mms (or anybody else for that matter) so your wife would do well to contact O2 and get the issue resolved.0 -

How can you not forward it without realising it is an mms, there is an icon on the message to suggest that it is an mms message.0 -

REFRENCE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113854The Mms.apk has the following moddings:
Sent Time displayed instead of the Received Time- No AutoConverting messages to MMS after 4 SMS.
- In my mod, it will be converted to MMS after 200 SMS.
- Possible to add to the message 200 contacts instead of 20 contacts.
