I Need Your Opinion

Im selling my home around May and will be doing some redecorating. I was hoping some of you could give me some tips as this is the first time i've sold a house. Kitchen & Bathroom is fine just the bedrooms and hall that needs done. 2 main things I want to know about are the doors and floors. Should I put new plain white doors or leave the frosted glass panelled -does this make any difference? Should I carpet the bedrooms or leave the laminate?
Any feedback would be great.:T

Myself I prefer carpet in bedrooms, so I'd say to carpet them in a nice neutral colour as this will appeal to the majority of people.
If the doors are the horrid old fashioned swirly glass panelled type then you'd probably be wise to get some cheap solid panelled doors from somewhere like B&Q as again this will make the place more appealling to buyers than something very dated.
Good luck, I'm thinking of selling early spring, but luckily don't have any work to do to the house. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
i would place neutral coloured rugs in the bedroom. why fork out for carpet when it will probably be pulled up anyways.
i agrre that the doors should be replaced with solid panels though. you may be able to remove the glass and put MDF panels in their place.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

If the carpets are reasonable and a neutral colour - try cleaning them.
Make sure that the whole house is painted in light neutral colours. Look critically again at the kitchen and bathroom. Colours that you're used to may jar with others - you only have one chance to make a good first impression.
Doors - look at the cheap knotty pine or moulded white doors.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
If it were me i'd leave the doors as glass doors will let light into the house and create more of a spacious feel to the place. If you replace them you risk making the hall look smaller and very dull which probably wouldn't make much impact on potential buyers and i doubt it will add much (if any) value to the property. It could be fairly expensive by the time you've bought new doors and got a carpenter to hang them (it's unlikely to be as straightforward as screwing them straight on).
I wouldn't bother carpeting it either. Personally i'd think laminate floors would be a selling point so why hide them?
You need to think carefully about what will add to the saleability of the house and remember that money you spend on this house is less money to spend on wherever you buy next. What looks nice to you might not to other people! For example we viewed a house where the owners had put wooden cladding around the hall ...probably cost loads but we didn't like it and it probably would have cost much more to take out and replaster the walls!
