Im off for summer and Husband off from 6th August for 2 wks. If weather good may stay in Uk and tour on our motorbike. My Husband likes Ravensglass and we have talked of Northumberland. We would be looking at roughly a week and self catering , perhaps a cottage. Anyone any recommendations?

Last year I spent a few days camping in the Eskdale Valley, at a small place called Boot. I was doing some fell walking, including Scafell Pike.
One day I took the wee train (nickname Ratty) from Boot to Ravenglass.
The journey on the narrowgage mini train was nice but Ravenglass ..
Oh dear !! nothing there at all.
If you like walking the Fells are nice, if not give the North East coast a try. It's very nice, although that's where I live (Whitley Bay)
Northumbria is very nice, a few castles are there and if you like kippers, try those from Craster. Visit Holy Island or the Farne Islands.
Enjoy yourselves
ps the roads are much quieter in Nothumberland than in Cumbria0 -
Both are great. Around Ravenglass you have some great walking. Would recommend brockwood hall near Millom
Muncaster castle is one of my favourites. A great day out. You've also got some great attractions further up the coast in Whitehaven
Northumberland also great we've camped up there a couple of times kids love the empty beaches and Alnwick gardenThe futures bright the future is Ginger0 -

Right the plan is , weather permitting leave tue 9th aug, head up towards john ogroats for a couple of days, then loch ness area a couple of days then northumberland area for 2 or 3 days. Any suggestions on reasonable priced B and B, short term caravan, cottage accomodation would be appreciated, wouldnt be able to take bedding as going on the motorbike. If weather is going to be poor a last minuted to Greece or somewhere0

I would rather spend a few nights in the west highlands area around Plockton/Applecross rather than heading way up to John o groats. Then head to loch ness. It's a huge area you are covering up there but stunning scenery if you get the weather.
Good luck and enjoy whatever you choose.0 -

Hi all, with the collapse of holidays 4u and the weather in Scotland looking a tad 'iffy' next week may have to reconsider our location. Havent been to Cornwall for almost 30 years so it maybe an option. We are looking to go sometime tues 9th but more than likely wed 10th for a week. However, most caravans/cottages seem to be fri or sat start. Does anyone know any flexible ones or a lovely cheap Inn ? Thanks0
