Just want to warn anyone considering buying a smaller electrical item requiring a guarantee from John Lewis that they may get a better guarantee deal buying from the internet.
I know TVs etc have an automatic 5 year guarantee but smaller items vary as I found out.
I bought an i-pod dock online with a two year guarantee and since a family member wanted one I went instore next day and bought the same item,same price etc only this time it had a one year guarantee.
I went back to the store with both receipts showing identical items,with different guarantee periods and the manager checked up and said he had'nt been aware of this and could'nt understand why they were doing this as as far as he was concerned the smaller items usually only had a one year guarantee.
He was good enough to arrange a two year guarantee for me after I said I would be returning the item and re-ordering online if necessary.
If I'd had to buy the extended guarantee it would have cost me over £30 so it was well worth the query.

I think all audio items have a 2 year guarantee (you mean ou bought one on the JL site and the other in store, I presume, not bought something from a DIFFERENT website?).

It could be that the till printers were acting up. When I bought my TV a couple of years ago, it didn't print anything about the 5 year guarantee, but it's still covered.
