Can I ask to see if anyone has any experience of mincers, as I am looking to purchase one. I am looking at making my own meat loaves, burgers etc - maybe even venture into sausages!!, but our local butcher will not mince bacon, chicken etc for customers, as they say it means all the machines have to be cleaned thoroughly as they are only used for mincing beef, - which I can understand if I am only looking for a pound of minced chicken or bacon.
Hope someone can help, this is posted on the shopping board on the 'I wanna' thread but no-one has replied to another members enquiry, so I though if there is anywhere I would get honest answers its got to be on OS moneysaving!

Someone said that food processors are good for processing meat like raw chicken and beef, in fact Delia recommends blending beef to make burgers in them.0

I have an old-fashioned mincer - the one you clamp to a table or worktop and crank the handle. you can still get them on ebay or in good cook shops. food processors often have a mincing blade - but I read somewhere that it doesnt work as well as the old-fashioned mincers!
I find the mincer hard work -and it's a pig to clean - but it does a first rate job!0 -
Many thanks for your replies - I did buy one from Lakeland a few years back but was not that impressed with it. The things you were mincing didnt get caught properly from the feeder area to the mincer bit and just squashed out everywhere. Think it was about £16, and red plastic. The suction wasnt that great on it either when you were forcing the handle round, so would be prepared to pay a bit more for a product that does the job.I have a magimix processor but unfortunately they dont do a mincing attachment.Every days a School day!0

I bought a very solid old fashioned mincer by porkert. It is cast iron and will outlive me. It comes apart very easily and is very efficient. I bought a couple of extra cutters. I also cut seville oranges with it for marmalade

Thats the same one i bought from Lakeland and had problems with - possibly another one of the issues was that there is no plunger type thing to push the ingredients in with, and the ingredient kept popping up and I had to push it down with my fingers.
Kittie - that one looks solid but unfotunately I dont have anywhere I can clamp it onto - with the kitchen being fitted units there is only about half an inch to an inch of a lip of the worktop.IYKWIM!If it would clamp onto that I would be interested in this type. I remember my Granny having one exactly the same, and it was used very frequently. I reckon in general I would use it approx twice a week at least so a more expensive one to last the next thirty years would do just greatEvery days a School day!0 -
Lidi and Aldi both sell an electric one occasionally for £30-£40 mark, usually with 3 year warranty, but they usually sell out fast.

Hi all
I was recently gifted a Russell Hobbs kitchen machine with a dough hook, beater and whisk as the standard attachments and noticed it has the option to use a pasta making attachment and mincer attachment.
I was wondering if anyone had either of these sets and if they're worth investing in?
I'm more interested in the mincing attachment with the rising cost of meat it may work out cheaper to mince my own? I only use extra lean mince which is £4 for a 400g pack these days :eek:0
