Powergen - how many are there?
Apparently there are at least three different companies; they all use the same Powergen logo and the only way to tell them apart is the different contact phone numbers - obvious then!
There is the original Powergen, Powergen formerly Amerada and Powergen TXU. There may be a fourth Powergen company but their staff are a little uncertain as to what that used to be known as.
Eventualy there will only be one Powergen but until then they are separate companies and the customer service varies dramatically between them.
My problem is that I moved house and made one phone call to Powergen for a dual fuel deal. For some reason my gas was placed with Powergen (Amerada) and my electricity with Powergen (TXU); the direct debit to cover both fuels only credited the gas account and I didn't receive the dual fuel discount or any Tesco clubcard points.
The logical answer was to close the electricity account and transfer it to my gas supplier, however the company that deals with transfers will not accept a transfer from Powergen to Powergen!
Powergen has been a disaster from day one, full of false promises and misinformation; Don't Use them....any of them!

njm, youve been fobbed off by someone. They wont accept a transfer from within the company? Maybe not - but it isnt an external transfer you want, its an internal one.
They did it for me, when I informed them they were in breach of contract and involved Energywatch. I also got free electricity (the incorrect transfer) while they sorted it out - took them 5 months. Then I uswitched away anyway! Perservere with it, You are missing out on the discounts that are rightly yours.0 -
Stuwilky - thank you for your reply. I hadn't thought of the "breach of contract" route, or involving energywatch, and will give it a try. I look forward to the day I can use uswitch as well !I came, I saw, I did a little browsing.0

I used to work for one of the distribution companies that got taken over by Powergen (Part of Eon).
What a shambles.
I'm still amazed the lights come on when I flick the switch.I know nothing - really!!0 -
njm, when did you move house... it must have been around middle of 2003, as after this amerada went into receivership. amerada used to be part of txu and automatically became part of powergen due to the purchase of txu...ie amerada were txu.
when you moved house (and called powergen) was the property already supplied by powergen (in any guise)?
how did you obtain the powergen telephone number, and which powergen did you call?
if the property was supplied by powergen (and it seems it was supplied by txu) and you rang powergen (txu), they would merely have continued the supply. from your post, this is what seems to have happened.
had you called powergen (old emeb) they could have supplied both fuels as requested, but it seems as though you called the txu part of powergen and continued the existing supply.
however, if you called before the middle of 2003, you would be dealing direct with txu and amerada and not powergen.
if you get dates and give you a better explaination.Beware the green?0
