DriveCleaner2006 - please help

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone can help. My Dad has downloaded DriveCleaner2006 to his PC and I am not sure if this was the right thing to do. Does anyone know anything about DriveCleaner2006, whether it is malicious software and if so how to go about removing it?

My Dad has a particular problem with pop ups and chat rooms appearing which are unwanted. I am wondering if drivecleaner has anything to do with it. He is currently running Windows XP, AOL Broadband and Norton (AVG kept crashing his computer). I'm just downloading some anti adware right now!!

Thanks for your help

Look at the mal/spyware removal sticky - Don't let your Dad use DC2006 just follow the advice in the sticky - Print it off and have a read .. first

Get rid of it as soon as you can.
As pointed out above,it`s just a con to get you to buy it to remove something that doesn`t really exist.
I would imagine it will be very hard to remove.
You may need to come back for more help.

Oh blimey, thanks guys. I'd thought it couldn't be good when Dad didn't know where he'd downloaded it from. Nightmare.

I was going to try the Add or remove programs tool in the Control Panel. Do you think this isn't a good idea?

Sorry for all the questions. I really appreciate the help!

removal instruction here - http://www.symantec.com/security_res...726-99&tabid=3but it should un-install ... so no need to get rid of those reg entries by hand

EDIT - crossed post. I'll give this a go, thanks!!
