Company keep calling my phone for someone else

Hello,

The story basically goes.... I let a friend use my mobile phone to call a company she has a debt with. I was in the room at the time, and not once did she tell the company that it was her number, or give them permission to save the number.

Since that day, I have received over 20 phone calls asking for my friend.

Every single time I have told them that I am not the person that are looking for, and I have told them that she called them once from my phone etc.

As you can imagine it has got beyond irritating that I am receiving these calls every other day, and the last few times I have said I am going to report them for harassment or misuse of my telephone number.

The last time the person assured me that she was removing my number from their system, and there was no way I could receive another call - but surprise surprise - today I got another!!!

They have my friends number, as I have been with her when they have called it... so I don't know why they are still calling mine!!

How can I report them??

Thanks

Can you get your friend to phone them and tell them to remove your number? It may not work but it's worth a try.

Failing that, I would send a letter by registered post telling them this.

Failing that, well... report them to the financial ombudsman. And tell them in your letter you will be reporting them.

Well lovey bean, you know the answer ... Tell your friend to pay her debts!

Except thats not always an option for some people. The fact she rung them in the first place shows shes either not ignoring the debt or disagrees she owes the debt.

Now what she should do (assuming the debts correct) is agree to a payment plan and stick to it -- that way they are unlikely to keep phoning her.

Also how she manages her debt is none of my business... but the fact that this company saved my number without permission is against the rules.... and the fact that they keep calling me is surely harrassment?

I used to get so fed up of calls for a name I had no clue of, I would when they rang back deliberately scream down the phone high pitched. They after one ringing back and asking me not to scream down his ears, I said I have told you many times you are calling the wrong number and wont listen, hence my frustration and I will do it as feel like screaming down my own phone line.

One caller said they had every right to keep ringing me and there was nowt I could do about it as they thought i was so and so, so hence my screaming. They were asking for man, I am single woman !!!!!!

Made me laugh a real stress buster.

They did not call back again :)

Did it as well to persistant overseas call centre who kept ringing trying to sell debt advice, one man rang me about six times one night and seemed very angry I did it, the angrier he got the worse his english was and I was laughing away.

Again the calls from that company stopped.

Suppose its like when you get a shock when someone goes BOO and you jump, gets you noticed, but would only do it when they really had already said they would call again and again.

Revenge is sweet :):) and high pitched :):)

    Man indeed :(

There's one trick that I have used in the past and it worked for me.

A few years ago I was getting calls about once or twice a week from an investment company who I foolishly gave my mobile number to, and despite me asking them to stop calling, they kept doing so.

After a few months, I called them and advised them that I had changed my mobile phone provider & had a new number which I gave them. (this number was from an old sim card that I had but no longer used.

    After that, no more calls.
I think that they must have deleted the original number that they had for me and added the "new" one, and if they found out that the number I gave them was no good, probably wouldn't have been able to retrieve the deleted one.

Bear in mind that if you try this, it will only work for computer records and not if they still keep written details.

Just make chicken noises if they call, and don't say anything other than "cluck cluck".

(can you not just block the number on your phone?)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
