Why bother to ask for peoples advice and then 'do your own thing' before reading other peoples views.

If you bother to look, there was over an hour between my post & the first response. Martin Lewis had advised that these fixed rates could be withdrawn at anytime. What if no-one had replied til today? Was I supposed to just sit & wait??

Well, given that the tariff could have been pulled at any time I think that was very sensible. If the subsequent advice had worried the poster, then there was always the cooling-off period.

And the poster did thank, which is not always the case regrettably.

And yes, knowing I had the cooling off period was a big factor in my decision. Thanks for defending my decision :)

I'm going from BG's Websaver 10 to SP's Fixed till 2015 - well 12/2014, it costs more now BUT with another ~25% increase next year it'll seem cheap - trust me !

Flip, now I'm worried. :( I'm on Websaver 11 and if i stay until next April/May I'm due £125 credits already promised by BG. I was just today checking out Scottish Power's fix till Dec 2014, but this would cost me £80 a year more than WS 11. By the time WS 11 ends next May I'd have lost over £200 on like-for-like consumption. I couldn't figure out if I'd recoup this £200 over the remaining term of the 2014 deal - my brain doesn't cope with that kind of maths.

Is there NO chance prices will come down :rotfl:or maybe not go up by the percentages you all seem to think?

I'm a pretty below average consumer anyway so the percentages aren't as big in pounds terms, if you know what i mean. :o
  • the new scottish power, british gas and SSE (southern, scottish hydro, altantic, swalec, M&S) fix plans are SO much more expensive than those still available with edf (ie fixed price 2014). Scottish power's 2015 is only 9 months more than edf's 2014 but you would end up paying about £100 - £200 more per year to have it fixed for an extra 9 months.
  • Our house will either be up for sale soon or rented out, so I'm not sure what to do either?

Good points and even better, I think it is only £30 after March 2012.

    Correct !

£15 for electricity accounts and £15 for gas accounts (a total of £30 for customers with both gas and electricity accounts) if you withdraw from the tariff between 1 April 2012 and 31 March 2013.
