one of the elements has broken in my oven but the rings still work fine so i have been successfully using my combination micro for years now for a family of 3, i do everything in it that i would in my normal oven. in fact im sure its a lot cheaper to run as you arent heating up a big oven everytime you turn it on i wouldnt be without mine now and i havent even bothered getting myself a new cooker yet as im managing just fine without it! the combination micro is more expensive when you first buy it but i have more than had my moneys worth out of it and it would be very handy in your situation at the mo. i cook roast dinners in mine all the time, you normally have a wire circular shelf thing that comes in the micro so i put chicken/meat in the tray surrounded by potatoes to roast and on the tray on top i do stuffing and roast parsnips etc i then take it all out when cooked leave it to rest for 5 mins and by the time i have served everything up on plates i have nuked the peas/sprouts/veg in the micro till cooked and serve up!:Tproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!

I don't have a cooker or a hobb. I haven't had one for about 8 years. I have a combi m/w and convection oven/grill and an induction 'one ring' unit.TL0

What about a ready cooked chicken from the supermarket and a whole load of new potatoes, salad and nibbly bits? This is what we usually have on boxing day - a welcome change from cooked dinners.0

This is completely dishonest, but thought I would mention it, a friend of mine was awaiting gas install for her new cooker, and while she was waiting she bought a combi oven/hot plate thing from argos she didn't need then returned it when she got the cooker/gas fitted saying it didn't work properly (even took the fuse out) and they gave her a refund, ok she did keep it immaculate. I understand why she did it of course as a new single parent of 3 with not much money. One day I might be more organised...........
