Virgin Media departing customer con

Hi all,
I am not sure if this has come up elsewhere because I did a forum search and only got one page of results and it wasn't on it (other 11 kept saying no searches found when I tried to go beyond page 1 of results).
I have recently left Virgin Media. When I cancelled I gave my 30 days notice and the guy on the phone said I'd be owed over £100 when it cancelled (taking into account I'd be paying a months service which I knew about anyway). All fine.
The other day I got a 'bill' saying I was owed £101 for unused services but this was taken against a £74 outstanding balance. I pay direct debit so I called up and disputed that I owed anything because each bill comes out automatically. The person on the phone 'explained it' but confused me into agreeing with her. However, I still think I am being charged when I shouldn't be. She said as I cancelled June 6th and my disconnection date was July 6th they cancelled my direct debit (they took my June one on the 15th though...) as I'd no longer be a customer and that this charge was for a bill generated on 21st June when I was a customer and it would have come out on 15th July but I was not going to be a customer. Seemed fair enough that they can't have direct debits set up wth non customers. However, now this is where you need to bear with me...
My bills were generated on 21st (or thereabouts) of any given month and the money was taken out on the 15th of the following month for the month commencing on that 15th (services are paid a month in advance). For example, bill generated on 21st January gets paid 15th February for 15th February - 15th March. Therefore, this 21st June bill is surely to be taken on 15th July for 15th July - 15th August? This is when I am not a customer so why should I be getting billed for nearly £80 when I won't be using the service? Or am I working this out wrong?
Why does the billing need to be so confusing too?? If I'm right does that not mean they also owe me for 6th - 15th July for unused services?
Related to this is the fact that I added sky sports and was subject to a £26 admin fee I was assured I'd get back when I cancelled that package. I left the company before I removed the package but surely that is 'removing the package' and I should also get this?
Anyone have any experience of this or any insight?
Much appreciated!

This time last year - 3 credit cards and 2 overdrafts maxed out. This year - no overdrafts and one card with reasonable balance! It's strangely satisfying getting them cleared!
