Very clever scam...

Me and a m8 fell victim of this scam about a year ago, when Von Dutch hats were the craze.

I have to admit it is a very clever scam, as I guess it works really well. Basically, the seller will list tons of the same item for sale, be it hats or watches or whatever. So they start selling them, and send off the first 20 or so, maybe more. Great feedback starts pouring in...the seller then lists another 100 or so and sends out every 1 in 3 or something. More good feedback keeps coming, so no buyers worry and think theirs is on the way, while potential buyers look at the feedback and think all is fine, and go ahead and purchase.

Meanwhile the seller is selling more and more and more. Obvioulsy by now he/she isn't sending any out and the money keeps rolling in until the negatives start doing the same!

The seller I bought the hats from must have sold about 50 a day for a number of weeks...that's a hell of alot of money. Needless to say he got alot of negs until he was NARU and I never got my hats! Luckily I didnt spend that much, but the seller must have made tons at the expense of just about everyone that bought one.

Just thought I would tell you all this cos I am bored! Anyone experienced something similar?

Well I just found a shill bidder! I bid on an item with 6 mins to go then got outbidded 45 SECONDS later! Now being a suspicious bunny I decided to check out this other bidder. Hmm new user with 1 feedback. Well b***er me sideways with a horse, it's only a positive from the person selling the item I want! I could be wrong so I'm not going to do anything till I receive my stuff but I feel slightly concerned.
Oh and yes I did win, I just made them sweat for the remaining 5 minutes then bidded in the last 15 seconds. Won with 1 second to spare!!!!!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA

came across a similar scam on the https://www.hardocp.com forums a couple of years ago, basically the guy sold 20 odd p4 3.06mhx cpus (were top of the p4 range then!) then once he received the positive feedback then, he scammed the hell out of 30 odd forum members each for the tune of 200$+

i aways take a look at the sellers recent, and overall feedback these days even for little things when i get stuff onbay, the extra 5 mins research is well worth it!

JS - you are right the extra 5 mins is deff worth it! The bad thing about eBay is that it is a scammers workplace, but if you know your stuff I dont see why there should be a problem. Newbies need to be warned about the dangers IMO, as they are often the victims.

I think that should be you're an english teacher not your

It does happend yes but why should we get used to it? It's against ebay rules apart from anything else and if the seller really doesn't want to sell at that price why don't they just list it for more? Or not at all
2p off is still 2p off!

I'm sure not all sellers bid up their own auctions, and it is certaintly not something that we would encourage here.
