Private gynecologist?

Hi,
I would like to go to a private gynecologist to have a smear test done. NHS does it every 3 year, but I prefer to have it done every year (both my mum and grandma had cancer).
How can I find one that's reliable and not stupidly expensive? I emailed one in my area (Surrey) and they told me the initial consultation + test would be around £300!!!!

Perhaps a little obvious but have you spoken to your local doctors about having it done more often? If you're considered more at risk due to hereditory factors then they may do it for you anyway.0

My gynaecologist, based at a private hospital in London charges £70 for a smear, and on top of this I pay the hospital lab fees which are about £50 IIRC. £300 sounds steep to me.0

Thers is no significant hereditary risk for cervical cancer, the main risk factors are smoking and Human Papilloma virus infection. There are several people involved in the smear test ie taking it and reviewing and reporting on it. They have significant medical defence to pay each year and expenses to run their private business - so £300 is probably the going rate.
PS if you just want a smear and not to see a gynaecologist for anything else then it may cost you a lot less - try Spire Health - they have a fixed rate I think0 -
Bupa wellness clinics charge £100, this is done with a regular doctor, a gyn would cost £400Snootchie Bootchies!0

Thanks for your replies, I will check Spire Health and Bupa clinics.
Edit: Spire is £150, but I don't think there is a clinic near my place. Bupa is £309 but it's a complete Female check, with blood tests. It's quite good, same it's so pricey!
You've been very helpful, thanks again!0 -
Alisha I think Harley Street does a smear plus HPV test if you're local to London (?) but I'm not sure how much they charge these days.0

I can go to London, I took a look at the website but it looks expensive! Might send them an email to ask.0

If you are at risk, or have a 'dodgy' result you will get them more reguarly.
Have you spoken to your GP and asked if you can have them yearly?
Plus there are lots of things you can do to lower your own risk - including not smoking, not being overweight and reducing your likelihood of coming into contact with HPV.0 -
I think speaking to your GP about your fears is the first step. Are they even aware of the family history? If appropriate you can get it annually on the NHS.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Thanks, will speak to my GP too.
I've never smoked, I'm not overweight and in a stable relationship, so not much more I can do about this! I just feel 3 years is a long time without checking... maybe I'm just being paranoid.0
