Is it really fronting if the OP is insured on their mothers car, as stated?

Fronting is declaring a lower risk driver as the main driver when the named driver does the most mileage.

The OP has their own policy. There is no fronting involved however the OP has done it a bit !!!! about face. They'd have got a cheaper quote putting their mother on as a named driver.

That's a crazy way to insure it!

Useful thread though for the new car links...I am in the market at the moment, for a new or nearly new car..

Lol, sorry if I'm confusing everyone. Tbh, I'm no expert on the way car insurance works, all I know is, I rang up the AA (who my mum is insured with), told them I wanted to be able to drive my mum's car and they did the rest.

So I don't know whether that means I'm insured seperately, or I'm down as a named driver or.. whatever, but that's what is happening.

sounds like you are down as a named driver, if they find out you are fronting they can cancel you policy. on a different note, vauxhalls are selling corsa's and astras nil deposit, £x/month interest free over 5 years.

In which case, it is more than likely that your are not the main driver and are running the risk of driving the car with invalid insurance cover. Your mother is also running the risk of being prosecuted for insurance fraud, a criminal offence which carries very heavy penalties.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

My insurance was all done through the AA. My mum is insured with them, and I rang to be insured aswell. I just followed their advice, and they did it all for me. I highly doubt they'd be telling me to do something illegal, and if they are, I'm pretty sure the phonecalls are recorded, so .. I'm blaming them.

I really should read up on what fronting actually is.

Anyway, it'll hopefully be irrelevant soon, as there's some decent looking cars on a couple of the links posted and I get paid soon :)
