im 17, a student at college and also working as many hours as possible to me, and after using all of martins tips im still being quoted 3500 insurance on a 1.0litre car that is only 2 years old and has done 8000 mile. if i do a quote on an older car i get quotes of between 7000-15000. if anybody knows any good insurance companies that will give me a better quote id be extremely greatful for a message. as you can imagine 3500 is alot of money for a 17yr old student to afford in one year. thanks alot

If they have a good no-claims record, try putting your parents in the quote as named drivers (they never have to actually drive the car!) You should see the price come down quite a bit.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

If your parents have clean licences and no accidents put them on as 2nd and 3rd drivers
It will knock a great amount off
My Daughter is 18 and drives a 1 Year old Chevrolet Spark 1.2 LT Value £6k, quotes for her alone came in at £2200 upwards, put me and her dad on as second and third drivers, policy came down to £740
Remember not to put them as the policy holder or main driver or that would be fronting, but its amzing how much having a more "Mature" driver or 2 on the policy brings the rates down.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
and don't look at cars that are popular with every other person your age. If 50,000 young drivers own a 1ltr Corsa and 50% crash them, it puts a Corsa as a high risk car0

To all,
What hapens if there is a claim made by the 17 yrd old, faultless or at fault?
Will parents car insurance quotes rise when they next renew?
Would the premium rise emmediately for all second, 3rd drivers on they're own car insurance on the day that the incident/claim arised, and would they need to advice thier own insurance companies and pay additional costs to they're existing premiums?
Will parents lose thier NCB? If so, how much? e.g. would they lose 2 years NCB?
Ripple Effect?
Of course I have no idea how this works and am guessing, maybe someone can help me understand?
Would be interesting to get some other views on this...

People
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world,
We're children, needing other children
And yet letting our grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside,
Acting more like children
Than children.
Lovers are very special people,
They're the luckiest people
In the world.
With one person, one very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half,
Now you're whole.
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person
Who needs people.

No it would not affect the parents, unless it was one of the parents that was driving at the time of course,
Accidents and Claims Relate to the Policy & Driver Involved,
Hence if 17yr old has accident, his policy goes up next year, (But no affect on the parents policys as they were not the cause of the accident and it is not thier policy)
If parent driving 17yr olds car has accident in it, not only would the 17yr olds policy go up, but the parent would need to declare it to their own insurer so it would affect there renewal premium (But not their no claims bonus), as they are not claiming on Their policy.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
just got my son insured with aviva - 54 plate citroen c2 sx 1.1
tried loads of different companies online and by phone - spent hours
had a quote for £1689 with me as main driver (not fronting as I will be using car as well as my old car is dead) and my son as named driver
Gave them a ring and they got me a quote with him as main driver and me as named driver, fully comp, him on a provisional licence, with the likelihood of the premium staying the same when he passes his test (most insurers increase the premium on passing)
Wait for it £1226.80 - really pleased as you can imagine
All I can say is well done Aviva for being realistric and not ripping the normal person off - not like most
GOOD LUCK!0
