What we are doing is in keeping with the local brickwork etc, and in fact planning permission has been given for the same type of house with the same type of extension. But it's to do with the fact our house is slightly forward to our next door neighbours. I asked neighbours if I could look out of window to see what the building work may look like from their angle, and basically they just wouldn't be able to see the bathroom window of another neighbour's house across the road - it's not exactly scenic round here!
I can see why you'd be frustrated if you feel your proposals are valid, however I really would take the advice here and make some amendments to 'show willing' for the appeal. There is some good advice on what that can be, and how to rethink it.
I fear if you put the same proposal forward again with no changes you'll find the same problems. It would be better to get an extension that isn't 'perfect', than to not get one at all.0 -

May be this is what they don't like, you really need a local expert on your team.
May be the planners want to see some definition to what is new so would grant permission if you chose zinc cladding and a grass roof.0
