Insurance refund gone wrong!

in Credit cards
I'm getting married next year.
We had a venue lined up, paid the deposit on a credit card, but the rest separately.
The venue went into liquidation, and they had a limit on how much they could give us back - so we still lost £2500 despite being insured.
But someone mentioned that because we paid the deposit on credit card, we could be entitled to get it ALL back.
Does anyone know if this is this is the case? And if so, how do i go about it?
Thanks, this would be a great help.
Sam.
