Does sealed mozzerella go out of date and off or is it like hard cheese?

Do the smell test and the taste test, but I will be really surprised if it doesn't taste just fine for use today or tomorrow or Monday.0

i buy a lot of mozzerella when its whoopsied in te$co and i just bung it straight in the freezer without draining the bag. I take it out the freezer at the same time i take out the pizza dough (made in batches) and haven't had a problem taste or texture wise0

And no problems with the bag bursting when the water freezes? I'll have to try this!0

Hi All
I happen to have some mozarella in the fridge (bag type) and it is e'hem well dated 9th July. It's not been opened and not blown up, and the date doesn't actually say if it's use by or best before (it's from Lidl) - would the taste test tell me if it's gone off or should I just bin it for risk of getting ill?
Would it be possible in the future to open the bag and freeze half? (its only really me that eats it which is why sometimes a full pack is too much)

The taste test will tell you if it's gone off, believe me - gone off mozzarella tastes truly revolting! _pale_ As long as it tastes OK it should be fine to use, although it might be better to use it for cooking, just to be on the safe side.
I've frozen mozzarella in its liquid before, which I know works well, but I don't know about freezing it 'naked' so I can't tell you whether this would work or not. It might be worth a try if it would be thrown away otherwise - you've got nothing to lose, I guess!Back after a very long break!0 -
It will be a few months past the sell by date before it explodes and I now freeze mine if it doesn't get used the week I buy it..0

A friend and I ate some last Friday (19th) which was dated the 1st July. The only problem was her embarrassment at it being so out of dateThey call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0

Thanks everyone for your replys, I'll give it a go - or at least freeze it before it gets any older and see how it goes. I've deff 'tried' a bit of gone off mozarella before (left over too long) and it was truly acrid.building_with_lego wrote: »A friend and I ate some last Friday (19th) which was dated the 1st July. :rotfl: That's made me feel better - from memory mine is about 9th July so should still be edible (i hope!)Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
