Does sealed mozzerella go out of date and off or is it like hard cheese?

Options
With hard cheeses I rarely look at dates on packets and to be honest most of our cheese comes loose from the farm shop so doesn't have dates on lol.

Got some mozzerella balls still sealed in original packet in fridge (have been chilled since they came home last week). Now it doesn't have a use by date, just a best before date so i assume it will be ok, but what does everyone think?

The best before date is 19th july and it was destined for a pasta dish so will be cooked anyway.

It eventually expands in the packet and then explodes, as found out by my OH when he opened the fridge one day and it expoded all over him:rotfl::rotfl:. So you'll know when it's off!!

I would taste a tiny bit before using it, it can go off and tastes gross. But I am sure 3 days would be ok

Do you just bung it in the freezer, packaging and all?

Ve interested to hear about freezing mozerella as it says on packet not to which has always put me off doing it. Do you freeze whole packet, liquid etc? Or do you drain it before freezing? Does the texture change after defrosting?

We get the big slab of mozarella from Costco (£8.50 or so for 2.2kg), which we cut up into weekly chunks and freeze. The sell by date on ours, bought last week, is OCtober!

Not sure about the Buffalo stuff in whey though.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

I just freeze it in the bag. I have had mozarella a few days over use by that was slightly off, just smell it. It smells like off milk if it has gone over, and yes if it is really off it blows up the bag!
